LIZ SNOWDON: ARTIST, WRITER, MIX-TAPE MAKER
Hey, I’m Liz. I live and work in Maine, USA. I do a lot of collage, acrylic & mixed media, and printmaking, and I love breaking the rules.
I want art to be accessible, not just for people to admire, but I want to help liberate the idea of art and what it means to make it. When I tell people I make art, they’ll often reply with something like “Wow, that’s great! I don’t have an artistic bone in my body.”
First of all, YES YOU DO. Everyone does. Some people are given more opportunities, encouragement, time, and grace to explore art at earlier ages than others, and it takes time and the right environment to create art on an intuitive level where you have your own voice & style. I won't contest the idea of "natural gift," but the art you see in gallery & museum walls is the result of far much more than that!
Second, the conversations I've had with "non-artists" suggest that a lot of people see art as an unattainable thing. They don't really know what art means, how to talk about art, why people make it... there are just art people and non-art people, and that's the way it works. I'd like to help change that! I want to put art in your life, and I don't want you to be afraid of it! I want to teach you how to make things! I want to empower YOU to explore your own creativity in whatever shape it takes! Let's break the rules together.
